What this bond does

Provide the applicable UTC broker or forwarder security for compensation of transportation-service funds owed to the protected parties. Match the substantive WAC condition and the currently accepted undertaking.

Who needs it
Brokers and forwarders within WAC 480-12-375's scope. Identify whether you arrange transportation, consolidate shipments or physically carry property; the general term common carrier does not establish that every trucking company needs this $10,000 bond.
Who it protects
The rule conditions security on compensation to shippers, consignees and carriers for money belonging to them and coming into the broker's or forwarder's possession in connection with transportation service. This financial condition is distinct from motor-carrier liability or cargo coverage.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Details for the broker or forwarder security

UTC's Freight Brokers page links the Common Carrier Bond example and the broker rules. It describes a broker as arranging transportation using common carriers and a forwarder as gathering shipments for consolidation. Its ordinary Common Carriers page separately concerns carrying property for pay. Have UTC determine which permission and security match your actual business.

WAC 480-12-375 covers intrastate brokers and forwarders and defines the covered interstate role using physical presence in Washington by the person, employees or agents. It requires a surety bond or satisfactory deposited security of $10,000. Failure to file can prevent permit or registration approval; failure to maintain security is cause for cancellation.

The rule expressly names shippers, consignees and carriers as protected parties. The linked sample's operative compensation sentence names shippers and consignees. Have the accepted undertaking checked against the full rule rather than dropping the carrier protection or assuming an example's wording settles every case.

The posted sample permits termination by written notice to both the principal and UTC, with release from subsequent liability 30 days after UTC receives the notice. Use the accepted form's actual notice requirements and coordinate replacement with the commission. Neither the sample nor the rule supplies a universal annual bond term or substitutes for separate operating authority.

Questions about this bond

Does every Washington trucking company need this $10,000 bond?

Do not assume that from the title. UTC links the Common Carrier Bond example from its Freight Brokers programme, and WAC 480-12-375 addresses brokers and forwarders. Ordinary physical carriage has its separate permit and insurance requirements.

Whose money does the rule protect?

It names shippers, consignees and carriers whose money comes into the broker's or forwarder's possession in connection with transportation service. Match the full rule; the linked sample's compensation sentence names only shippers and consignees.

What follows Purchase Now?

Propeller's Washington Common Carrier application opens in a new tab. Before proceeding, match the UTC-confirmed role, legal principal, $10,000 security, full protected condition, dates and execution. File the accepted undertaking as directed and maintain any separate operating authority and insurance. Payment alone does not grant or reinstate a UTC permit.
