Waterloo, IA — Pawnbroker Bond

Waterloo requires $10,000 surety-bond proof for its pawn licence, and the City Clerk currently publishes a Pawnbroker’s Bond naming the City. The Southern Agency’s listing concerns that local undertaking. Use the pawn request rather than borrowing the City’s separate secondhand-dealer security.

What this bond does

The currently linked City form covers compliance with pawnbroker ordinances and payment of costs, fines and penalties for failing to observe them. It also contains a specific damages clause concerning wrongful purchase or receipt on pledge/deposit of stolen property from a minor.

Who needs it
The actual Waterloo pawn-business applicant—individual, partnership or corporation as the application identifies it. City rules require information about owners and a local manager where applicable, premises and relevant applicant history. A separate physical location needs its own licence.
Who it protects
The form runs to the City of Waterloo, Black Hawk County, Iowa. Its specified ordinance and damages conditions should not be broadened into all inventory loss, every customer complaint or a general guarantee of the applicant’s business performance.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Read the pawn form’s actual condition

The City’s currently linked form uses a $10,000 sum and references Ordinance 4161 and amendments. Its damages clause says “wrongful purchase or receiving on pledge or on deposit of any stolen property from any minor.” Keep that wording tied to the actual accepted instrument; it is not a blanket promise covering any loss of property.

The current codified pawn article separately requires $10,000 proof. The adjacent secondhand-dealer article has its own smaller sum and condition. Similar resale activity does not make that secondhand document a substitute for this pawn request.

Prepare the legal applicant and City calendar

The Clerk’s application separates applicant, business, manager/proprietor, and owner fields and asks whether the operation is individual, partnership or corporate. It includes a sworn applicant statement and City review. The codified article also calls for internet access to the automated pawn-records system and police/zoning review.

The published bond prints January 1 through December 31 date fields, while the pawn licence expires December 31 after issuance. Match the City’s accepted period; a midyear applicant should confirm the actual effective-date instruction rather than invent or backdate a date. The public purchase option itself has no term label.

Use the existing route with the City request ready

Purchase Now opens Propeller in a new tab. Compare the legal principal, City recipient, $10,000 sum, actual accepted pawn form, and dates before completing the application.

The City bond has principal and surety/attorney-in-fact execution fields; the separate licence application has its own sworn/notarial page. Follow the Clerk’s current instructions for both. Purchase does not complete City review or authorize operation at a different premises.

Sources

Have these ready

  1. Actual pawn applicant, legal business structure, ownership/local-manager and premises information.
  2. Waterloo City recipient and $10,000 pawn instrument, not the separate secondhand-dealer form.
  3. Accepted January 1/December 31 fields and actual midyear effective-date instruction when applicable.
  4. Complete bond execution, separate sworn licence application and City’s current police/zoning/records-system requirements.

Questions about this bond

Can I use the secondhand-dealer document because I also handle used goods?

Do not assume that. The current Code places pawn and secondhand activities in separate articles with different security sums and conditions. Match the Clerk’s actual pawn request and $10,000 proof.

Does the $10,000 form insure every pledged item?

No such blanket promise appears in the cited form. It addresses ordinance compliance, specified costs/fines/penalties and its particular wrongful-property damages clause. Check the accepted instrument rather than treating it as inventory insurance.

Does purchasing this transfer the former owner’s licence to me?

No. The current pawn article says the licence cannot be sold or transferred and requires the business purchaser or majority-stock purchaser to apply for a new licence before operating. The surety document is only part of the applicant’s City file.
