Wyoming — Collection Agency - NMLS Bond

Wyoming collection agency applicants must file a $10,000 bond or cash security within 20 days after notification that the application is approved. The license follows approval of the bond by the Collection Agency Board and Attorney General. Match that sequence to the agency's NMLS application rather than treating checkout as permission to operate.

What this bond does

The statutory bond requires the agency to turn over collection proceeds to the client that placed a debt for collection, less the charges allowed by their agreement. It covers debts placed with the licensed agency and supports the Board's claim process when the agency fails to account for the client's money.

Who needs it
Businesses that fall within Wyoming's collection agency licensing law, including covered out-of-state collectors and debt buyers. The statute separately excepts businesses engaged solely in collecting business debts and provides other specific exemptions. Confirm the actual activities before assuming a Colorado or another state's debt-buyer exception applies in Wyoming.
Who it protects
The bond runs to Wyoming and parties who may be claimants under its collection-proceeds condition. A claim goes to the Board, which notifies the surety; if it is not paid or settled within 30 days after that notice, the claimant may sue in their own name. The surety's aggregate liability cannot exceed the $10,000 bond amount.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Details

Section 33-11-108 ties the security to application approval: file it within 20 days after notification, maintain it thereafter, and obtain the Board and Attorney General's bond approval before the license issues. The surety must be authorized to do business in Wyoming, and the applicant must execute and acknowledge the bond as principal. The statutory cash alternative is not an extra option offered in this checkout.

The condition concerns money collected under the agency's agreements with clients who place debts for collection. It requires turning over proceeds less agreed collection charges. It is not a guarantee to pay off the debts the agency is collecting, nor does the title alone promise payment for every kind of collection-law allegation.

Present bond claims to the Board first. The 30-day period in section 33-11-108(c) runs after the Board notifies the surety and determines when an unpaid or unsettled claimant may bring suit. Separately, section 33-11-109 bars a new bond action more than two years after license revocation or expiration and preserves actions already commenced within that period. Neither clock is a fixed purchase term.

A surety's withdrawal and the licensee's replacement obligation have their own sequence. Section 33-11-108(d) addresses future-act termination on filing a replacement bond or withdrawal notice, subject to section 33-11-109. After the Board notifies the agency of withdrawal or loss of the surety's authority, the agency has 30 days from that notification to file a satisfactory new bond or its right to operate terminates. Do not confuse that notice with the separate claim settlement period.

The Board's current application page uses NMLS for agency licenses and sets renewal submissions between November 1 and December 1. It separately requires a qualified resident manager. Purchase Now opens Propeller's Wyoming collection agency NMLS application in a new tab. Bring the legal applicant name, NMLS identifier, approval notice, required security and effective date; complete the principal's execution and acknowledgment and deliver the bond as the Board currently directs. The NMLS label does not establish that checkout automatically files an electronic bond or completes licensing.

Questions about this bond

When must I file the bond?

Section 33-11-108 requires filing the bond or statutory cash deposit within 20 days after notification that the application is approved. The Board and Attorney General must approve the bond before the agency license issues. Do not assume payment at checkout itself grants operating authority.

Does NMLS in the title mean automatic electronic bond filing?

The Board's current page confirms NMLS for applications, renewals and license management. That does not establish that this purchase submits an electronic bond. Confirm the Board's current delivery instructions and maintain the correct NMLS record.

Are all the 30-day periods the same?

The claim provision gives the surety 30 days after the Board's claim notice to pay or settle before a claimant may sue. The replacement provision gives the licensee 30 days from the Board's withdrawal or authority-loss notification to file a satisfactory new bond. They have different notices and purposes.
