Arlington, MA — Sidewalk Crossing Permit Bond

Private-lot construction can still require Arlington approval when equipment crosses a public curb, grass strip or sidewalk. The Town's March 2024 rules require the appropriate approved contractor and permit, with current security on file; crossing permission is distinct from changing a driveway apron or excavating a utility.

What this bond does

Town of Arlington, Massachusetts security for the actual permitted crossing/public-way work and form-defined defects/covered claims.

Who needs it
The Town-required approved contractor/applicant, with owner access and any separate utility work identified.
Who it protects
The accepted Town instrument addresses specified public-way performance, defects and covered claims. It is not payment/completion security for every private-lot construction contract.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Identify the crossing and approved contractor

Section III-B expressly addresses vehicles/construction equipment crossing public curbs, grass strips, sidewalks or driveways for work outside the ROW. It requires Town-approved contractor status and permission, subject to stated discretionary exceptions; private building work alone does not bypass that process.

Distinguish temporary access from lowering a curb, changing sidewalk grade or constructing/enlarging a driveway apron. Bring the actual crossing/route, equipment, surface condition and owner/contractor roles so Engineering can classify the operation and assign plans/conditions.

Have accepted security on file before permission

Purchase Now opens Propeller; the option displays no fixed amount or term. The published table lists a $2,000 minimum for driveway/curbing/sidewalk work and a separate $5,000 commercial-utility category. Match Engineering's actual classification, form, Town recipient/principal, required sum, work coverage and dates with the issuer.

Arrange required execution and current bond/insurance certificates accepted on file with Engineering before permit processing/issuance. Obtain the actual crossing permission and keep its site copy; a current contractor approval or issued bond does not authorize every access route.

Follow assigned protection, access, inspection and surface-restoration conditions and obtain actual continuation/release instructions. Permit work-season restrictions and an approved-contractor period are not a supplied bond term or automatic discharge.
