Boston, MA — Public Works Street Opening Bond

Prepare Boston Public Works' actual excavation security and named permittee before using this RLI option. The current City guide calls for $20,000 excavation proof, distinct from occupancy-only security; the option itself supplies no fixed amount or term, and a bond on file does not authorize an opening at every address.

What this bond does

City of Boston security for the named party's defined public-way opening duties under accepted Public Works permits.

Who needs it
The City-required legal permittee/principal and contractor, not automatically the private property's owner or the RLI account holder.
Who it protects
The City's accepted form concerns public-way duties, Commissioner directions and covered City costs/damages. It is not completion/payment protection for every private building or utility contract.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Identify the opening and the City's named-party record

Boston's current guide distinguishes excavation security from street occupancy. Bring the actual opening location/dimensions, use, proposed dates and permittee/contractor identities. If the company is missing from the City's online lists, arrange the Permit Branch's specified bond proof; an RLI application does not register a City contractor.

The City's linked public-way form contemplates received or future Public Works permits, with duties and covered expenses arising from the occupation/opening. Confirm actual on-file coverage for the excavation; do not assume occupancy-only proof or an approved bond creates blanket permission for other locations.

Complete security, City permission and restoration separately

Purchase Now opens RLI. Match the City-accepted instrument, legal recipient/principal, required sum, covered permits/work and dates with the issuer before completing the application. No equivalence to another provider's form or fixed annual term is certified here.

Arrange required execution and accepted Permit Branch filing, then complete City application/plan review and obtain issued work permission. Boston's seven-business-day application lead time is a City process requirement, not an RLI issuance promise. Follow the actual traffic, pedestrian, posting and inspection directions.

Keep the completed opening/City-property restoration and cleanup records and obtain the Branch's actual acceptance, continuation and release instructions. Finishing a patch or closing the private job invoice does not establish bond discharge.

Questions about this bond

Can occupancy-only proof be assumed sufficient for excavation?

The City guide distinguishes the security categories. Match the actual excavation assignment and on-file coverage with the Branch and issuer.

Does an RLI account put my company on the City's lists?

No such registration is established. The City asks missing permittee/contractor companies for bond proof through its Permit Branch.

Does finishing the patch automatically release the bond?

Obtain the City's actual restoration acceptance and security continuation/release instructions; the form's duties are not discharged by a private invoice closeout.
