Berwyn, IL — Contractor License Bond

What this bond does

Prepare the City of Berwyn contractor-license surety for the actual business category, rather than choosing a generic amount.

Who needs it
Contractors preparing the City Collector's license application or renewal with the bond required for their category.
Who it protects
The City's instructions request wording keeping Berwyn harmless from person or property damage liability arising from operations under the license. This protects the City in the way the accepted form states; it is not the separately requested liability insurance certificate.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Choose the license category before the amount

The posted sheet calls for a $10,000 original surety for each license applied for, except that General, awning installers, crane operators, environmental, excavating, sign installers, waste haulers, wrecking and demolition categories are listed at $25,000. Have the Collector confirm your current classification.

The sheet also identifies a $50,000 parkway/sidewalk or street-opening bond for plumbing contractors when the Building Department requests it. That is not a universal $50,000 amount for every Berwyn plumber or this broad contractor option.

Use the correct principal and signed original

The instructions distinguish an individual doing business as a company from a corporation named as principal and signed through its officer. They require a properly signed original, made out to the City of Berwyn. Check those execution details on the issued document, not just the applicant's marketing name.

Purchase Now opens Propeller in a new tab. Once issued and checked, supply the signed original with the actual Collector's submission as directed. The City's application requires a new form each year; that renewal requirement does not supply a duration for the existing provider option.

Sources

Have these ready

  1. Confirm the current City license category and assigned amount.
  2. Have the City-specific hold-harmless wording and recipient.
  3. Distinguish an individual's DBA from the corporate principal.
  4. Prepare separate license-application and insurance documents.
  5. Check signatures and original submission after issuance.

Questions about this bond

Is $10,000 enough for a General Contractor?

The posted City sheet puts General in the $25,000 list. Confirm the category and accepted wording rather than treating the broad contractor title as a $10,000 instruction.

Can I submit an unsigned provider confirmation?

The City instructions call for the original surety signed by the principal. Check the issued instrument and the Collector's current delivery directions.

Is the $50,000 plumbing figure part of every license?

The sheet ties it to a Building Department request for parkway use or sidewalk/street opening. Do not transfer it to every contractor or assume this provider label certifies that separate instrument.
