What this bond does

Support a Blue Ash right-of-way work permit on a street assigned to the City's other-streets bond category.

Who needs it
Contractors applying for work in Blue Ash right-of-way outside the downtown and designated main-arterial categories, when the City requires this bond.
Who it protects
The bond supports the City's right-of-way work obligation. The permit makes the applicant responsible for excavation, replacement and restoration; bond issuance does not approve the excavation or transfer those duties away from the applicant.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Confirm that the $3,000 category fits the location

Blue Ash publishes different bond sums: $3,000 for other City streets, $5,000 for downtown and designated main arterials, and a $10,000 renewable blanket option for contractors with several jobs. Have the City classify the exact location; this entry should not be chosen simply because the street name sounds residential.

The City's guidance separately treats utility-company bonding case by case and says a resident doing their own work does not need the listed fee or bond. Ask Public Works which treatment applies to your applicant and work.

Apply for the work permit and plan the restoration

The City requires a separate right-of-way work permit for each job or area, even for work that does not involve digging. Submit the signed application and work plan or sketch, and obtain authorization before starting.

The permit requires inspection notice at least 24 hours before backfilling. Restoration is due immediately after excavation and by the permit's termination date. Materials and workmanship for repairs are subject to City approval and a one-year warranty from completion.

Confirm dates before issuance

Published bond guidance calls for one year from estimated completion or an umbrella term ending on the last day of the following year. The repair warranty's actual-completion date is a separate reference point. Have the City confirm the dates your instrument must show.

Continue through Propeller after matching the requirement. Check the issued bond and provide it with the City's required permit documents; a purchase receipt is not the City's permit.

Sources

Have these ready

  1. Ask Public Works to classify the work location as other City streets rather than downtown or a designated main arterial.
  2. Confirm the $3,000 bond requirement for the applicant and scope.
  3. Prepare the signed permit application, work plan or sketch, dates and restoration details.
  4. Confirm the accepted bond wording and filing, and arrange the required pre-backfill inspection notice.

Questions about this bond

Can I use this other-streets bond for downtown work?

Blue Ash lists downtown separately at $5,000. Have Public Works confirm the category for your location before selecting an instrument.

Does a right-of-way permit apply if I am not excavating?

The City's guidance says its work permit is required even when the activity does not involve digging. Describe the work so Public Works can identify the applicable authorization.

Will this bond cover several jobs automatically?

Do not assume that. Blue Ash has a distinct $10,000 blanket option for several jobs, and even blanket users must obtain a permit for each job or area.

What must happen before backfilling?

The applicant must notify the Engineering Technician for inspection at least 24 hours beforehand under the City's published requirements. Bond issuance does not satisfy that notice.
