What this bond does

Section 16-204 of the published code calls for a $10,000 bond deposited with the city administrator, issued by a surety authorized in Tennessee. Its conditions include chapter compliance, protection of the city/officers against specified excavation-related claims and filling/restoring openings to the streets-and-sanitation superintendent's satisfaction.

Who needs it
The applicant/permittee making the covered public-way excavation. The permit application identifies the applicant, nature/location/purpose of the work and proposed beginning/completion dates; this is not a general bond for every private-site earthmoving job.
Who it protects
The chapter addresses guarding excavations, negligent injury and public-way restoration. It describes maintaining the excavated public way for 24 months after the work, with usual wear excepted and a stated exception for defective pavement restored by the city at the permittee's expense. That maintenance duty is not a 24-month purchase-based expiry or a general liability policy.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

A utility permit exception does not necessarily remove the bond

Section 16-205 gives certain franchised public utilities an exception from applying for a permit, but expressly keeps the chapter's surety-bond requirement. Do not treat a utility's right to enter the street as proof that security is unnecessary.

The chapter separately addresses city-directed work and emergency procedures. Have the administrator confirm the actual applicability and accepted undertaking; do not extend a specific exception to every contractor, utility or public project. Permit timing, work completion and bond filing are separate steps.

Sources

Have these ready

  1. Have the applicant's legal name and the city administrator's actual excavation request.
  2. Identify the public-way location, work purpose, beginning/completion dates and restoration responsibilities.
  3. Confirm the currently required sum, city-payable accepted form, authorized surety and any actual exception.
  4. Prepare execution/filing instructions and records for restoration, maintenance and release.

Questions about this bond

Is every utility exempt from bonding if no permit application is needed?

No. The published section 16-205 expressly retains the surety requirement for the utilities described in its permit exception. Confirm your actual status with the administrator.

Does the maintenance period start when I buy the bond?

The published chapter measures its 24 months after the work, with stated wear/restoration exceptions. Obtain the accepted bond's actual dates and release instructions rather than using a purchase anniversary.

How do I start the Bolivar application?

Purchase Now opens Propeller in a new tab. Match the applicant, City of Bolivar request/recipient, accepted form, required sum and work dates. Provider review/issuance, authorized execution and administrator filing do not themselves issue the excavation permit or accept restoration.
