Brockton, MA — Street Opening Bond

Brockton separates its street-work contractor licensing bond from each street opening permit and restoration deposit. Ask Engineering which security the City requested before applying here. A new or altered driveway curb cut also needs Highway permission.

What this bond does

Security for the particular City of Brockton, Massachusetts street-opening obligation, with the contractor licensing bond and per-permit restoration deposit distinguished.

Who needs it
The licensed contractor performing Brockton street work and the owner arranging the permitted installation or driveway cut.
Who it protects
The accepted security concerns the identified City street-work and restoration duties. It is not permission to excavate or a guarantee of every obligation in a private construction contract.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Identify the City security before buying

The City's construction licensing instructions require a performance/license-and-permit bond of at least $5,000. Its separate street-opening instructions require a refundable restoration deposit for each permit, in an amount set by Engineering's estimate. The documents do not establish that this surety option substitutes for that deposit.

Street openings, including driveway cuts, must be performed by a City-licensed contractor; subcontractors also need the required licensing. Obtain Highway's curb-cut permission where applicable and the actual Engineering street-opening permit. General DPW relocation information does not move Engineering out of City Hall.

Keep permit, repair and deposit dates separate

Purchase Now opens Propeller; the option displays no fixed amount or term. Give the issuer Engineering's actual request, accepted bond form, required principal/recipient, amount and coverage dates. Confirm whether the request concerns contractor licensing or a particular opening, and whether a separate deposit remains due.

Arrange the required execution and Engineering-accepted filing, then obtain the City's work authorization. The opening instructions describe a 30-day permit and a written extension process. An annually expiring contractor licence is not the same thing as a 30-day permit or the issued bond's term.

The minimum patch-maintenance duty runs one year from the permanent patch. The deposit instructions instead schedule final inspection one year after the permittee's completion notification, followed by a documented refund request within six months of that inspection. Coordinate the required start notices, inspections and completion notification; none of those dates establishes automatic surety discharge.

Sources

Have these ready

  1. Engineering's actual Brockton request: contractor licensing bond, individual opening deposit, or both.
  2. City-licensed performing contractor and required principal/recipient, site, installation and curb-cut permission if applicable.
  3. Accepted instrument, required amount/dates and confirmation whether surety can satisfy any requested deposit.
  4. Issuer execution, Engineering filing, issued permit, required notices and inspection/completion/refund records.

Questions about this bond

Does the $5,000 licensing bond replace the opening deposit?

The City describes them separately. Its licensing instructions state a minimum $5,000 bond; its opening instructions require an Engineering-set deposit. Obtain confirmation for the actual request before treating one as the other.

Does buying the bond authorize a driveway cut?

No. Brockton requires the applicable Highway curb-cut permission and Engineering opening permit, with the work performed by the required licensed contractor.

Does the one-year patch duty determine my bond term?

No. Patch maintenance, deposit inspection/refund, contractor licensing and the issued bond have distinct dates. Use the City's actual request and issued instrument rather than copying a permit or maintenance period.
