Cook County, IL — Contractor License Bond

Cook County's 2026-posted registration application marks demolition and sign trades as requiring a bond but supplies no bond amount. Obtain the County's actual request for your class before applying through Propeller; not every registration item is a surety requirement.

What this bond does

Prepare contractor security specifically identified by Cook County Building and Zoning for the applicant's trade.

Who needs it
County contractor registrants with a written bond request, including the trades expressly marked on the registration application.
Who it protects
The County's accepted bond form defines recipient, amount and secured conditions. Registration's ordinance-compliance affidavit and insurance certificate do not supply those terms or replace the issued surety.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Identify the marked trade and actual principal

The application marks demolition and sign entries with the bond footnote. It also distinguishes General with or without trades and explains that General means manager, with registration still needed for the trades actually performed. A broad General title is not proof that every County registrant owes the same bond.

The owner or corporate officer may submit the County application by email or in person. Keep the legal business/DBA distinct from the individual registrant. A Chicago office address for County Building and Zoning does not turn this into a City of Chicago bond.

Use the County request for security terms

Have the written class-specific bond request and accepted wording, including principal, recipient, sum and dates. Neither the County form nor the existing Propeller option supplies an amount or term that can safely be assigned to every applicant.

Purchase Now opens Propeller in a new tab. After issuance, check the instrument and deliver it as the County directs. Corporate papers, the insurance certificate and the separate County declaration are registration documents, not automatic surety pre-application requirements or evidence that a permit has been issued.

Sources

Have these ready

  1. Identify the County trade and whether a bond is actually requested.
  2. Have the written request and accepted form, amount and dates.
  3. Match legal business/DBA and distinguish the owner/officer registrant.
  4. Keep County registration declarations and insurance separate.
  5. Check issued security and County filing apart from building permits.

Questions about this bond

Does every County registration use one bond amount?

The posted application marks particular trades for a bond and does not state a sum. Use the actual County request rather than a universal figure from a broad title.

Does General registration cover all work?

The application says General means manager and still requires registration for trades performed. Identify the real work and its class-specific request.

Is the registration affidavit the surety instrument?

No. Its compliance statements and other County registration documents remain separate from the accepted bond, its execution and filing.
