Florida — 12th Judicial Circuit Court Process Server Bond
Serving legal documents is different from enforcing a writ or performing private investigations. The Twelfth Judicial Circuit requires an individual certified process server’s $5,000 bond for its appointment process covering Sarasota, Manatee, and DeSoto Counties. Apply through The Southern Agency with the Court Administration file and the dates for the requested appointment ready.

What this bond does
Provide the $5,000 security for an individual seeking placement or renewal on the Chief Judge’s approved certified-process-server list. Florida Statutes §48.29 and the Circuit’s current-linked Administrative Order 2022-06.2 identify the condition and annually renewable bond; the Court also requires coverage through the full certification period without a lapse.
- Who needs it
- The individual applying for appointment or renewal in the Twelfth Circuit’s certified-process-server program for initial non-enforceable civil process. Use the person in the Court file, not a service-company name alone. This financial purchase is not an appointment, an enforcement credential, or approval for every Florida circuit.
- Who it protects
- The bond benefits a person wrongfully injured by the applicant’s malfeasance, misfeasance, neglect of duty, or incompetence in their process-server duties. It is security for that described conduct, not a promise that every disputed service will produce payment or that the applicant has already been appointed.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Questions about this bond
Can a purchase make an application timely outside July and August?
No. The current-linked order accepts applications July 1–August 31 and does not consider those received September 1–June 30. Check the Court’s current window before completing the financial document; buying it is not an exception to that process.
Can I renew if my name is no longer on the current list?
The order treats someone not currently on the approved list, including a former server whose certification lapsed or application was rejected, as a new applicant. Use the corresponding Court process and supporting documents.
Does “renewable annually” guarantee the right dates?
No. The Court demands a bond through at least August 31 of the following year and no lapse over the requested appointment. This choice has no duration label. Confirm the actual beginning/ending dates rather than assuming any twelve-month document will fit.
Does one Circuit appointment automatically cover all Florida circuits?
No. Section 48.29 permits qualification and approved-list entry in more than one circuit, but placement on the Twelfth Circuit’s list does not itself enter your name on another circuit’s list. Use the actual appointment for the work involved.
