What this bond does

Security for the named applicant's actual single INDOT driveway or road-approach permit in State ROW.

Who needs it
The legal permit applicant required by INDOT, coordinated with the property owner, constructing contractor and any authorized consultant.
Who it protects
The State's single-permit form conditions performance and lawful contractor/vendor/labor claims connected with the covered permit. Its stated aggregate/cost provisions do not make it security for every private site-development obligation.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Define the approach and estimate the State-ROW work

INDOT distinguishes commercial and private/field access, temporary driveways, removals and public road approaches. Describe the property, State road and proposed connection/change so staff can identify the actual permit category. A city or county driveway permit is not the State's access authorization.

The linked April 2024 guide's Permit Bond definition states a $10,000 minimum or enough for all work within INDOT ROW, whichever is greater, and asks that the estimate include 25 percent for construction variances. Match INDOT's actual assigned amount rather than applying that estimate to the entire private building contract. Confirm any approved waiver or special direction instead of assuming the provider's blank amount field determines the requirement.

Separate owner/consultant documents from the bond

INDOT's resources separately list consultant consent for a person applying on an owner's behalf and an access-control agreement that may apply to the actual driveway. Confirm those documents and the legal permit principal. Submitting plans as a consultant does not automatically make that consultant the bond principal or replace property-access conditions.

Use the current three-page single-permit Performance Bond, identifying Driveway, principal/State recipient, required sum and effective date. The form requires notarized principal/surety signatures and surety power of attorney. It is different from blanket security for multiple permits.

File with EPS and the appropriate district

Purchase Now opens Propeller; the option displays no fixed amount or term. Give the issuer the actual driveway request and arrange complete execution. INDOT requires the EPS PDF and original signed/notarized documents; current performance-bond instructions direct originals to the district where work will take place.

Effectiveness is the later of the stated date and State acceptance/EPS entry, and the form continues until State release. Obtain actual driveway permission before construction and use the published district release-request route when appropriate. Neither checkout, a review estimate nor completion of the approach establishes a fixed annual bond expiration.

Questions about this bond

Does the guide make every driveway bond exactly $10,000?

No. Its Permit Bond definition compares the minimum with the amount needed for State-ROW work and asks for estimated ROW cost plus 25 percent. Obtain INDOT's actual assigned amount and any approved waiver.

Does the bond replace owner-consultant consent or access-control documents?

No. INDOT lists those as separate resources for the actual access application. Match the legal permit principal and required property documents independently.

Where do single-permit originals go?

Current INDOT resources direct performance-bond originals and release requests to the relevant district and require an EPS PDF as well. Do not substitute the central blanket-bond mailing route.
