Massachusetts — MassDOT Highway Work Permit Bond

Identify the MassDOT District and actual State Highway Layout work before ordering. MassDOT's published access rules let the District require applicant-posted performance security for construction and possible damage before permit issuance; a municipal street permit or annual maintenance authorization does not cover every State-road opening.

What this bond does

Match MassDOT's actual Highway Work/Access permit security assignment for work within the State Highway Layout.

Who needs it
The actual applicant/grantee, with property/infrastructure owner consent, utility and authorized-agent roles correctly assigned.
Who it protects
The District-assigned instrument secures the specified State-highway construction/damage obligation. It does not guarantee payment/completion of every private project or replace permission from another road owner.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Identify the permit category and responsible applicant

MassDOT directs access applications through SHAPS and the responsible Highway District. Its published rules distinguish vehicular, non-vehicular and small-wireless access; a project seeking vehicular and non-vehicular access may require separate applications.

The rules require owner consent and, for an agent, a notarized authorization letter; work on a utility also needs the utility's applicant signature. An annual maintenance permit expressly excludes roadway openings and capital improvements. Have the District identify the actual work authorization rather than using an agent's name or maintenance renewal as the bond's scope.

Match assigned security and arrange sign-off

Purchase Now opens Propeller; the option displays no fixed amount or term. Obtain the District's accepted form, exact recipient/principal, approved sum, permit/site coverage and dates and match them with the issuer. Section 13.05(6) makes required security a pre-issuance condition and bases it on estimated State-layout construction and possible damages; no universal minimum was established here.

Arrange required execution and accepted District filing separately from SHAPS review and obtain actual permission before work. Complete assigned plans, insurance and other approvals without treating issuer processing as authorization.

The grantee must request the final inspection/sign-off and correct any punch-list deficiencies. The rules also retain responsibility for subsequent roadway failures under their conditions. Obtain actual continuing-security and release instructions; sign-off is not proof of an invented annual bond expiration.

Questions about this bond

Does annual maintenance permission cover an opening?

MassDOT's published definition excludes roadway openings and capital improvements. Ask the District for the correct work permit/security.

Is there a fixed amount or annual term on this option?

Neither is supplied. Match the District's actual form, required sum and coverage/dates with the issuer.

Who requests final sign-off?

The rules make the grantee responsible for contacting MassDOT for inspection and correction of deficiencies. Confirm security release separately.
