Medford, MA — Right Of Way Bond

Medford's Engineering Department handles several ROW permissions, including occupancy, trench and curb/driveway work. Its current contractor application separately requires a $10,000 bond and a one-year workmanship guarantee. Have Engineering identify the security behind your particular request before applying for this broadly named ROW option.

What this bond does

Security for the specific City of Medford, Massachusetts ROW request, with licensed-contractor security distinguished from general occupancy or excavation permission.

Who needs it
The required owner, developer, utility or performing contractor, identified separately according to Engineering's actual application and bond request.
Who it protects
The accepted instrument secures the identified City work and restoration/workmanship obligations. It does not qualify every contractor or authorize every use of the ROW.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Identify the permit applicant and performing contractor

Engineering's current page describes ROW applications from owners, developers and private utilities, while identifying licensed contractors for water, sewer and drain work. Occupancy, trench, curb and driveway applications must use the City's Citizenserve process. The person arranging access and the contractor performing utility work are not automatically the same bond principal.

The contractor application currently selected by Engineering is the 2026 form. It requires a $10,000 bond naming the City of Medford as obligee and a one-year workmanship guarantee. Confirm whether your ROW request calls for that contractor instrument or other assigned security; the broad listing title does not establish that every occupancy needs the same bond.

Keep qualification, permission and restoration separate

Purchase Now opens Propeller; the option displays no fixed amount or term. Give the issuer Engineering's actual form and required principal/recipient, amount, site or contractor coverage and dates. Arrange execution and the City's accepted filing rather than treating the public application portal as proof that an executed bond has been accepted.

The contractor form's annual December 31 licence expiry and quoted contractor-review period concern City qualification, not a promised bond delivery time or supplied bond term. Obtain the actual work permit and any required special excavation approval before opening the street.

The current form makes the contractor responsible for final restoration and identifies advance inspection and connection-exposure requirements. Coordinate the City's actual inspection before covering work and preserve the accepted restoration records. Ask Engineering which workmanship, retention and release dates apply; licence termination language does not establish a bond cancellation rule.

Questions about this bond

Does every Medford ROW request require the contractor form's $10,000 bond?

The current contractor application requires that bond, but Engineering describes several ROW applicants and permit categories. Have the City identify the actual instrument for your request rather than applying the contractor requirement universally.

Is the one-year workmanship guarantee the supplied bond term?

The option supplies no fixed term. The City's required guarantee, annual contractor licence and actual bond coverage must be matched separately.

Does a contractor application authorize street work?

No. Qualification and security do not replace the particular City work permit, excavation approval or required inspection before work is covered.
