Milton, MA — Right Of Way Street Opening Bond

Milton's current DPW instructions list separate $5,000 street-opening and $5,000 drainlayer bonds for licensed contractors. Its linked ROW regulation also describes applicant-level security and different work/warranty periods. Ask DPW which instrument and parties your street-opening request requires; do not assume one bond satisfies both activities.

What this bond does

Town of Milton, Massachusetts security for the assigned ROW/street-opening request, distinguished from the separate drainlayer instrument.

Who needs it
The required owner/utility permit applicant and performing licensed contractor, identified according to the actual DPW request.
Who it protects
The accepted instrument secures the assigned public-way performance/restoration obligations. It does not itself grant excavation authority or replace separately required drainlayer security.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Get DPW's actual security assignment

The current DPW page identifies street-opening and drainlayer bonds separately. The linked 2003 ROW regulation describes the owner or utility as the opening applicant, applicant-level two-year security, and a cost-based bond value capped at $25,000. Have DPW map those posted requirements to the actual applicant, performing contractor and accepted form rather than assuming a universal $5,000, one-year arrangement.

The regulation separately describes a three-year workmanship warranty. The current page describes 30-day ordinary permits and a one-year driveway permit. Those are different obligations, not interchangeable bond terms; the drainlayer licensing calendar also does not establish a street-opening bond renewal deadline.

Apply under DPW and arrange the Town's markout

Purchase Now opens Propeller; the option displays no fixed amount or term. Provide DPW's required instrument, Town recipient/principal, assigned amount, coverage and dates to the issuer. Confirm execution and accepted security filing, then obtain the actual work permission.

Milton directs online applications through PermitEyes. Select DPW and the correct permit category: the page warns that an application filed under the wrong department/type cannot simply be transferred or changed. Where excavation is already included in another general application, a separate trench submission is not required, but the operator and trench-location details still are.

DPW explicitly says a Dig Safe call does not notify the Town; its markout requires a DPW permit application. Coordinate both required locate processes and the assigned inspection before covering work. Obtain the applicable work, restoration and security-release instructions, keeping the permit window separate from warranty and bond coverage.

  3. Accepted form and issuer execution/filing; correct DPW PermitEyes category and required trench/operator details.
  4. Separate Town markout and Dig Safe coordination, issued work conditions and inspection/restoration/acceptance/release records.

Questions about this bond

Does one $5,000 bond satisfy both street-opening and drainlayer requirements?

The current DPW instructions list separate instruments. Have the Town identify what your actual work and parties require rather than combining them into one assumed coverage.

Will Dig Safe notify Milton DPW?

The current page says it will not. Milton's markout requires a DPW permit application; coordinate that alongside the required Dig Safe process.

Is a 30-day permit the same as bond coverage?

No. The published material distinguishes work-permit windows, applicant security and workmanship warranty. The option supplies no fixed term; obtain DPW's actual form and dates.
