Minnesota — Pest Control Bond

Match your Minnesota pest control bond to the right applicator license before applying through The Southern Agency. MDA accepts financial responsibility through net assets, liability insurance or a performance/surety bond; the coverage requirements depend on the work.

What this bond does

The bond route provides financial responsibility for liability arising from pesticide handling, storage, disposal and application. It is not a separate grant of authority to perform treatments.

Who needs it
Minnesota pest control businesses and applicators reviewing the bond alternative for their licensing class. An employee need not carry separate bond or insurance while the employer maintains the required coverage.
Who it protects
MDA requires this financial responsibility to address pesticide-related liability, without an exclusion specifically removing pesticide misuse. Structural pest control requirements differ from the commercial pesticide applicator limits.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Use the structural pest control limits when they apply

MDA lists structural pest control limits of $100,000 bodily injury, $200,000 bodily injury or death for two or more at each occurrence, and $10,000 property damage per occurrence. Its bond alternative uses the same amounts and provisions as the corresponding insurance option.

A qualifying net-assets statement is another route. Do not assume a bond must be added to existing qualifying insurance or employer coverage. Establish the applicator class and financial arrangement on your licensing file first.

Apply and keep the evidence available

Purchase Now opens Propeller in a new tab. Have the applicant/employer identity, MDA license class, required limits and dates ready. Match the requested form to that class rather than relying on the broad product title.

After issuance, check the coverage period and cancellation-notice provision. MDA says evidence need not accompany the license application, but must be available when requested. If coverage ends before December 31 of the license year, provide replacement evidence to MDA before it expires.

Questions about this bond

Must an employee buy a separate bond?

MDA says employees do not need separate bond or insurance while their employer maintains the required coverage. Confirm the actual employer arrangement before applying.

Is the structural pest control schedule the same as commercial pesticide application?

No. The rules provide different liability limits. Identify the MDA license class and use its corresponding requirements.

Do I automatically attach the bond to the license application?

MDA says these documents are not required with the application but must be available if requested. Keep the issued evidence current; replacement is needed before coverage expires within the license year.
