Mississippi — Check Cashing License - NMLS Bond

Mississippi check cashers apply and renew through NMLS. DBCF lists a $10,000 starting security requirement and requires electronic surety bonds. The electronic undertaking is perpetual, while the license follows a January 1–December 31 year; do not order a replacement annual paper form solely because renewal is approaching.

What this bond does

Provide the Commissioner-approved security required by Mississippi Code Section 75-67-509(c) for the check-casher business.

Who needs it
The actual Mississippi check-casher license applicant or licensee. Match the NMLS company and disclose all branches and covered services, including any delayed-deposit activity.
Who it protects
Section 75-67-509(c) makes the security payable to Mississippi for faithful performance of the licensed business's duties and prompt payment of judgments for charges or other claims arising from violations of the Check Cashers Act. It requires Commissioner approval before the undertaking is valid.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Details for the electronic bond and annual license

Use the Check Casher NMLS license, not the separate Credit Availability or Title Pledge requirement. DBCF's current check-casher instructions list $10,000 starting security. Its electronic-bond guide says the submitted amount must include the initial requirement, all branches and existing riders. Give the producer the complete company and branch record rather than calculating from one storefront alone.

Authorize the producer in NMLS before preparation. Match the principal's NMLS identifier, surety's NAIC number and current required amount. For a conversion, DBCF requires the exact original bond number and an amount including all riders. An MU2 Direct Owner/Executive Officer then attests and submits the prepared electronic bond.

DBCF's guide expressly removes notarization and says hard copies should no longer be mailed. The electronic bond is perpetual, has a cancellation clause and is managed through NMLS, including changes. Complete the actual electronic condition and cancellation instructions; the calendar license year is not an instruction to replace this with a paper undertaking ending December 31.

Licensing and financial qualifications remain separate. The current programme lists $20,000 maintained net worth for one location plus $5,000 for each additional location, criminal-background processing in NMLS and Secretary of State registration as required. Those net-worth figures are not the bond's branch formula. The Department's September 2026 guidance also distinguishes ordinary check cashing from delayed-deposit transactions under the same Act; disclose the service actually offered.

Questions about this bond

Does annual license renewal require a new one-year paper bond?

No. DBCF's electronic guide says the undertaking is perpetual and hard copies should no longer be mailed. The check-casher license still renews annually. Maintain the required electronic security and complete the separate NMLS renewal.

Is the additional-location net-worth requirement the bond calculation?

No. Net worth and security are different requirements. Give the producer all branch and rider information so the electronic filing represents the current total obligation; do not substitute the $5,000 net-worth increment for the required security.
