New York, NY — Two To Fifty Locations Liability Bond

NYC DOT's currently linked Two to Fifty Locations Liability permit bond states $50,000. Before applying through RLI, confirm the planned location count and DOT permit category for the coverage year. Multiple-location building operations use a different form.

What this bond does

Provide the City's requested permit security for work within the two-to-fifty-location category. The recipient is the City of New York acting through its Department of Transportation, not the State Department of Transportation.

Who needs it
A legal permittee arranging DOT work at two to fifty locations during the requested coverage period. Assemble the anticipated sites and activities so DOT can identify the correct category before the bond is executed.
Who it protects
The official form addresses permitted-work compliance, protection and restoration of City property, completion or repair, and specified City costs and liabilities. It does not authorize work at those sites or replace the required insurance.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Plan the locations and work category together

DOT groups the two-to-fifty template with street and sidewalk opening forms. Its separate more-than-one-location building-operations-only template states $25,000. More than one address is not enough to choose between those instruments.

Use DOT's location classification rather than counting permit documents as if every permit were a different site. Ask about the proper band before adding a fifty-first location; DOT publishes a separate 51-to-100-location form.

Confirm the coverage year and continuation

The $50,000 form describes calendar-year coverage and successive annual extensions evidenced by continuation certificates executed by principal and surety. It also states that liability is not cumulative from year to year.

Coverage ending or being cancelled does not eliminate obligations for permits issued or work performed before effective cancellation. Confirm the continuation requirements and the separate maintenance guarantees for protected or unprotected streets.

Complete the surety and permit applications separately

Confirm the legal principal, accepted template, amount, dates and coverage year with DOT, then use the existing RLI application. Arrange the form's signatures, acknowledgments, evidence of authority and surety attachments.

Submit the executed bond as DOT directs. Insurance documents, permit review, work-site conditions and restoration acceptance remain separate. Do not begin all listed operations merely because the multiple-location bond has been issued.

Sources

Have these ready

  1. Identify the legal permittee and anticipated sites and work activities.
  2. Confirm the two-to-fifty opening category rather than building-operations-only or a larger location band.
  3. Prepare the $50,000 instrument, effective date, calendar coverage and execution documents.
  4. Obtain separate permit, insurance, continuation and site-restoration instructions.

Questions about this bond

Is this a State NYSDOT bond?

No. This guidance concerns the City of New York acting through NYC DOT. State-highway work uses different State requirements and instruments.

Does fifty permits necessarily mean fifty locations?

Do not assume so. Confirm DOT's classification of the actual sites and activities. The published categories are expressed in locations, not automatically the number of permit documents.

Can I use the $25,000 building-operations form instead?

Only if DOT identifies that different category for the work. The current two-to-fifty-location form states $50,000; the $25,000 template is expressly for building-operations permits only.
