New York City, NY — Process Server Bond — Individual
New York City repealed §20-406.1 effective September 8, 2026. The individual process-server licence continues. Before using The Southern Agency’s existing RLI purchase choice, establish a separate current written request; an older City model does not establish a current licensing mandate.

What this bond does
Distinguish this individual-server listing from the agency product and from the City’s retired financial requirement. Do not use the former §20-406.1 basis to describe a new mandatory licensing purchase.
- Who needs it
- An individual New York City process server checking an actual current financial request, not a process-serving agency buying its own instrument. Keep the person’s legal name and current City licensing file separate from the names of agencies that assign work.
- Who it protects
- An older model’s beneficiary, covered acts and claim terms are not automatically the terms of a new undertaking after repeal. Any separate current request needs its own accepted instrument and explanation of the secured obligation; the listing title alone does not establish those facts.
Your bond option

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Have these ready
- Individual server’s legal name and current DCWP file, kept distinct from assigning agencies.
- Current written basis for any separate financial undertaking after the September 8, 2026 repeal.
- Accepted instrument identifying principal, recipient, secured acts, sum and actual dates—not an automatically reused historical model.
- Existing-document instructions for any earlier liability or cancellation question; City licensing materials remain separate.
Questions about this bond
Did the City stop licensing individual process servers?
No. The financial section §20-406.1 was repealed, while DCWP’s current individual licensing checklist continues. Do not confuse that financial change with permission to serve process without the applicable credential.
Does the old model establish a new mandatory purchase?
No. It identifies the former §20-406.1 basis. A separate current financial request would need its own basis and accepted instrument; the continued presence of the model PDF does not supply them.
Is the individual listing the same as the agency product?
No. Keep the named individual and that person’s City file separate from a process-serving agency’s legal entity. An agency roster in the individual application does not make the agency the financial principal.
Does repeal automatically cancel earlier obligations?
Do not assume that. The actual existing instrument and current instructions control cancellation and earlier liabilities. This page does not determine a release or establish that any separate contractual request has ended.
