Oklahoma — Armed Security Guard/Private Investigator Bond

Oklahoma’s armed security guard, armed private investigator, and combination armed licenses have a $10,000 minimum for the applicable liability coverage or bond under 59 O.S. §1750.5. Before applying through The Southern Agency, match the armed credential and any agency-provided coverage evidence rather than buying a duplicate personal instrument.

What this bond does

Provide the financial evidence for the applicable armed-role file with the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET). This is distinct from the unarmed $5,000 category and the general $100,000 agency minimum. Use CLEET’s actual role and coverage instructions for the applicant.

Who needs it
Applicants matching the armed security guard, armed private investigator, or combination armed credential. Employed applicants should identify the agency and accepted evidence of coverage. A self-employed investigator must also identify the agency-licensing role; the word agency alone does not resolve the applicable financial category.
Who it protects
For the surety route, §1750.5(J) addresses actionable injury, loss, or damage from the principal’s willful or wrongful acts or omissions and conditions the instrument on faithful, honest business conduct. It also specifies judgment protection for the State and its agents, officers, and employees. CLEET receives the licensing evidence. Check its accepted form for the exact named recipient and claim conditions.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Match the armed role before using a financial amount

The statute distinguishes the $10,000 armed-person or combination-armed category from the $5,000 unarmed category and general $100,000 agency minimum. Those are legal financial categories, not amounts or durations labeled on this purchase option.

Section 1750.5(G)(3) says a self-employed private investigator employing no other investigators also needs an investigative-agency license but is insured or bonded as a self-employed investigator. Do not automatically substitute the general agency amount merely because that additional license is needed, or use a personal armed amount for an agency employing others.

Check employment evidence and keep the accepted coverage current

CLEET’s current checklists allow a letter of employment or bond/insurance evidence, and the statute requires agencies to ensure employee minimum coverage. Verify the actual evidence accepted for your employment arrangement before assuming every worker needs a separate bond. Employment does not itself issue the individual credential.

The statute requires ten days’ prior written notice to CLEET before a policy or bond is modified or canceled. Keep the applicable coverage current and follow the accepted form’s actual limits, execution, and date instructions. Read any aggregate or claim conditions in that document.

The RLI application and CLEET application are separate

Purchase Now opens RLI in a new tab. Compare the intended instrument with the armed applicant, legal financial category, CLEET-accepted wording/recipient, and effective dates before completing it. This option has no amount or term label.

CLEET currently uses its online licensing portals and no longer accepts paper license applications. The guard and investigator guides describe three-year credentials, not a verified three-year purchase term. Keep the financial document for the State file as directed; purchasing it does not satisfy firearms training or grant armed-work authority.

Sources

Have these ready

  1. Exact armed guard, armed investigator, or combination role and the individual’s State application identity.
  2. Employing agency and actual employment/coverage evidence, or self-employed investigative-agency status and whether other investigators are employed.
  3. CLEET-accepted financial route, $10,000 armed-category minimum where applicable, intended form/recipient, and actual effective dates.
  4. Current State portal and document execution/submission directions; maintain the statutory ten-day prior modification/cancellation notice.

Questions about this bond

Do I automatically need a separate bond if I work for an agency?

No automatic duplicate should be assumed. CLEET’s checklist lists an employment letter or bond/insurance, and §1750.5 requires agencies to ensure employee minimum coverage. Establish the actual accepted evidence for your role and arrangement before purchasing.

Does a solo investigator’s agency license automatically mean the $100,000 category?

Section 1750.5(G)(3) expressly treats a self-employed investigator with no other investigators differently: an agency license is also needed, but the person is insured or bonded as a self-employed investigator. The armed financial category is $10,000. A business employing other investigators needs its actual agency requirements checked separately.

Does this purchase allow me to carry a firearm for work?

No. The statute and CLEET guides have separate armed-credential, training, testing, and identification requirements. Financial evidence is only part of the licensing file; purchase is not armed-work authority.

Does the three-year State credential set the offered term?

No. CLEET’s guides describe a credential expiring three years after issue. The public purchase option supplies no duration label. Confirm the actual instrument period and maintain the financial evidence applicable to the license.
