Oklahoma — Unarmed Security Guard/Private Investigator Bond

Before buying an Oklahoma unarmed guard or investigator bond, check whether CLEET needs your own coverage or evidence of agency employment. State law sets a $5,000 minimum for unarmed security guards and self-employed unarmed investigators who employ no other investigators. The Southern Agency’s listing is for that unarmed role, not an agency’s larger liability requirement.

What this bond does

Under 59 O.S. § 1750.5(J), an accepted surety bond allows recovery for actionable injury, loss or damage resulting from the principal’s willful or wrongful acts or omissions. It also protects the State, its agents, officers, and employees from judgments against the principal or insured licensee and is conditioned on faithful, honest business conduct.

Who needs it
An unarmed security guard or a self-employed unarmed private investigator matching CLEET’s actual licensing request. A self-employed investigator with no other investigators also needs an investigative-agency license. Hiring investigators or operating a security agency changes the coverage question; the $5,000 individual minimum is not the agency limit.
Who it protects
The statutory condition concerns actionable injury, loss or damage and honest conduct. Liability insurance is also addressed in the statute; a bond is not universally the only acceptable evidence. The accepted condition and covered principal matter, and an application or complaint does not establish an automatic claim payment.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Separate your unarmed license from the agency’s coverage

CLEET’s agency instructions call for bond evidence for a self-employed investigative agency. Security agencies, including self-employed security agencies, and investigative agencies employing others must provide $100,000 general liability insurance. Do not treat this unarmed individual listing as a substitute for that agency evidence.

The guard application checklist asks for a letter of employment or bond/insurance, as applicable. An agency employee should first establish how the employer documents the required coverage. A self-employed investigator must address both the individual credential and the agency application. The statutory armed-license minimum is different; this listing is specifically unarmed.

Have the licensing file and coverage request ready

Identify the legal applicant, unarmed services, employer or self-employed agency, and who else performs investigations. Keep the CLEET request for the condition, recipient, amount, and dates with those facts. The public option supplies no amount or term label; do not infer them from its title.

CLEET’s current checklist also calls for training/experience evidence, a current passport-size color photograph, required court records and fingerprints through its designated process within 30 days of the online application. CLEET now uses its application portals and no longer accepts paper applications. Purchasing the bond does not replace that licensing process.

Apply with the right principal and keep CLEET informed

Purchase Now opens RLI in a new tab. Match the unarmed individual or self-employed-investigator arrangement, actual $5,000-or-other-requested amount, CLEET-accepted condition, and effective dates before completing the application. Submit the issued evidence through CLEET’s current instructions; purchase is not a license or approval to carry a firearm.

Section 1750.5(J) requires 10 days’ prior written notice to CLEET before an insurance policy or bond is modified or canceled. The individual credential is renewable on a three-year cycle, but that is not a term offered by this unlabeled purchase option. Renewals require current employment or coverage evidence and continuing education.

Sources

Have these ready

  1. Legal individual applicant and the actual unarmed guard/investigator services.
  2. Employer coverage/employment notice or self-employed investigative-agency details, including whether other investigators are employed.
  3. CLEET’s accepted condition, recipient, amount, dates, and modification/cancellation instructions.
  4. Separate application, training/experience, photograph, fingerprint, and required court-record documentation.

Questions about this bond

Does every unarmed employee need to buy this separately?

Do not assume so. CLEET asks for employment or bond/insurance evidence as applicable, and agencies must ensure employee coverage. Establish how the actual employer documents your position before buying a duplicate instrument.

Can $5,000 satisfy my security agency’s requirement?

The individual minimum does not replace agency coverage. CLEET’s agency instructions require $100,000 general liability insurance for security agencies and investigative agencies employing others; a self-employed unarmed investigator with no other investigators has a distinct statutory treatment.

Does the three-year license establish this bond’s term?

No. This purchase option does not label a term. Match the actual accepted effective period and maintain current evidence; follow the statutory 10-day prior written notice rule for modification or cancellation.
