Sandwich, IL — Street, Sidewalk, Public Way Construction Work Bond

Use Sandwich's actual ROW work classification and accepted instrument rather than assuming every street or sidewalk job uses $10,000 security. Its posted April 2024 application distinguishes residential/utility, commercial, industrial and minor non-excavation work.

What this bond does

Security required for the actual Sandwich street, sidewalk or public-way construction/restoration obligation, with the current accepted instrument confirmed.

Who needs it
The legal applicant required by the City, coordinated with the property owner and contractor or utility company identified in the work request.
Who it protects
The actual City bond defines the secured duties. The posted ROW application calls for warranty/maintenance security; do not assume an older construction-work label establishes identical form or coverage.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Have the City classify the work and security

The 04/22/24 ROW application lists $10,000 for residential and utility work, $25,000 for commercial and $50,000 for industrial work in its excavation/restoration category. Its minor non-excavation category requires $10,000 warranty/maintenance security. The City Engineer determines the accepted type and amount. A separate $1,000 cash/check deposit is listed per application; it is not the surety sum.

The City's 2020 commercial driveway/sidewalk checklist also remains posted and lists a $10,000 Street, Sidewalk and Public Way bond. Do not use that older checklist to override the 2024 classifications or assume this provider's instrument meets every current warranty requirement. Ask the City and issuer to confirm the exact form and whether separate security is needed.

Allow for review and arrange actual permission

The 2024 application asks applicants to allow at least two weeks for processing. It requires work/restoration plans, owner authorization and separate insurance naming the City and Engineering Enterprises Inc. as additional insured. Applicable street/lane traffic plans need approval before permit issuance and installation before work, with appropriate other-road-authority approvals attached where required.

Purchase Now opens Propeller; the option displays no fixed amount or term. Confirm the legal principal/recipient, accepted instrument, amount and dates before applying. Arrange issuance and City filing separately from actual permit approval, pre-installation or connection inspections and restoration acceptance. Neither the deposit nor a purchased bond authorizes construction.

Sources

Have these ready

  4. Separate deposit, review time, applicable traffic/other-agency approval, accepted filing, inspections and release.

Questions about this bond

Does the older commercial checklist prove every bond is $10,000?

No. The posted 2024 ROW application distinguishes work categories and lists $25,000 for commercial excavation/restoration, with the City Engineer deciding the accepted type and amount. Confirm the actual request.

Is the $1,000 deposit the same as the surety bond?

No. The 2024 application lists a separate cash/check deposit and warranty/maintenance security. Obtain the actual deposit and bond instructions, including any release conditions.

Can I rely on the older five-working-day review statement?

The posted 2024 ROW application asks applicants to allow at least two weeks for processing. Plan for actual City approval rather than treating either document as a guaranteed authorization date.
