South Carolina — Contract Security Agency Bond
South Carolina’s contract-security applicant must post a $10,000 bond with SLED in favor of the State. The Southern Agency’s listing concerns that business-licensing undertaking—not an individual officer’s registration, a proprietary in-house security licence or insurance for a customer’s contract.

What this bond does
Section 40-18-50(B) calls for an Attorney General-approved form from a surety authorized in South Carolina. SLED’s Contract Security form secures performance of the licensed role’s duties required by law throughout the covered period.
- Who needs it
- The applicant providing contract-security services or furnishing officers for compensation under the SLED contract-business path. Corporate/partnership applicant rules and individual officer registrations are separate; the business title alone does not qualify the responsible person or staff.
- Who it protects
- The undertaking runs to the State of South Carolina and conditions the obligation on performance of the licensed contract-security duties. It is not a general incident policy, proof that a client’s insurance conditions are met or an automatic private payment for any complaint.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Questions about this bond
Does this register each security officer?
No. SLED lists business licensing and employee registration separately. The State’s $10,000 business undertaking does not itself qualify the responsible person, satisfy training or register all staff.
Does it prove compliance with a client’s liability-insurance request?
No. It secures the State licensing duties described by the form. A customer’s contract or policy requirements are separate; this document should not be described as general incident insurance.
Can I use only the trade name and omit the execution attachments?
Use SLED’s accepted principal wording and complete package. Its sample distinguishes individual/dba from incorporated-company naming and expressly calls for the attorney-in-fact power-of-attorney sheet, along with the indicated signatures/witnesses. Confirm the actual accepted execution before completing the application.
