What this bond does

Provide the Town-requested security for an excavation in its right-of-way, using the accepted bond wording and contractor identity.

Who needs it
Contractors working in Town of Union right-of-way in Broome County, New York. For sewer or water laterals, the Town also requires an excavation permit and inspection before covering the installation.
Who it protects
The bond secures the duties in the Town's accepted street-opening instrument. It does not replace construction specifications, required insurance evidence, inspections or work authorization.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

File the bond with the Clerk and arrange the permit

The Town's excavation-permit guidance names the contractor as the party who must have the $5,000 street-opening bond on file with the Town Clerk. Obtain the accepted form and confirm the contractor's legal name, required dates and whether the security on file covers the proposed opening.

Continue through the existing Propeller application once those details are settled. Review the issued document and file it as instructed. The bond's issuance is not the Highway Superintendent's authorization to open a street, alter a sidewalk or change a curb.

Plan lateral inspections and other road permissions

For sewer and water lateral installations, the Town requires an excavation permit and six hours' inspection notice so Engineering staff can inspect before the work is covered. Obtain the Town's construction specifications and coordinate inspection rather than backfilling on the strength of a bond alone.

The Town says an excavation on a State or County highway also needs a permit from that authority. Do not substitute a County bond requirement for the Town's $5,000 filing or assume one permit clears every agency. After work, confirm the Town's closeout and bond-release instructions; no automatic release date is established here.
