Alabama — Commercial Co-Venturer Bond
An Alabama business advertising a for-profit sale, event or performance that benefits a charity or religious organization may be a commercial co-venturer. That registration carries $10,000 security and a September 30 expiration cycle. Prepare the charity agreement and filing timetable before advertising the partnership as ready to begin.

What this bond does
Provide Attorney General-approved commercial co-venturer security under Alabama Code Section 13A-9-71(h), separate from the benefiting charity's registration.
- Who needs it
- The commercial business conducting the covered promotion for profit or other commercial consideration. The statutory goodwill-only exception also requires the benefiting organization to supervise and control collection and distribution; it is not a blanket exemption for every charity partnership.
- Who it protects
- The statute and posted undertaking run to Alabama's Attorney General for the state and persons with causes of action for malfeasance or misfeasance in the solicitation. Principal and surety bind themselves jointly and severally for the stated $10,000 obligation. The form does not guarantee a particular volume of sales or a minimum charitable donation.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Questions about this bond
Is a religious beneficiary enough to exempt the commercial business?
No blanket exception follows from the beneficiary's identity. The co-venturer definition expressly includes promotions benefiting religious organizations. The goodwill-only exception also depends on the benefiting organization's supervision and control of collection and distribution.
May services begin as soon as I sign the charity agreement?
The statute requires filing the agreement within ten days of execution and waiting fifteen days after filing before performing services. Registration and approved security are separate requirements; a bond purchase does not start or satisfy that waiting period.
