Alaska — Paid Solicitor - MAIL Bond

Alaska paid solicitors need the Department of Law's $10,000 undertaking and registration before soliciting. Registration renews by September 1, while the prescribed bond is continuing. The catalog's MAIL label does not waive the Department's current online-registration rule; confirm document delivery with the provider and filing requirements with the Department.

What this bond does

Provide paid solicitor security on the Department's prescribed AS 45.68.010 form, covering charitable-solicitation duties rather than an unrelated mailing or delivery guarantee.

Who needs it
The person or business hired to solicit money or property for a charity for compensation. Alaska's registration guidance excludes the charity's bona fide salaried officers, employees and volunteers from this paid solicitor definition. Do not register the charity as the contractor.
Who it protects
The form benefits the Department of Law for Alaska and persons or entities with covered causes of action for AS 45.68 or 9 AAC 12 violations or solicitation malfeasance/misfeasance, including the principal's members, officers, employees, subsidiaries and subcontractors. It secures statutory duties and covered liabilities, with one $10,000 aggregate across all years and claims.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Details for MAIL, online registration and continuation

Use the Department's actual Paid Solicitor Surety Bond form with the legal solicitor principal, effective date and an Alaska-authorized surety. The principal signs through the appropriate owner, partner or specified corporate officer; complete the surety/attorney-in-fact execution and contact information. Confirm delivery arrangements without treating the listing label as a separate statutory mail-only class.

The prescribed undertaking continues until the surety terminates it with sixty days' advance written notice to both the principal and Department of Law. Liability continues for acts during that notice period. Covered liabilities arising during the effective period remain within the undertaking even when enforcement occurs later.

The $10,000 aggregate does not reset annually or increase with the number of claims. Annual registration renewal instead requires evidence of continued security. The published instructions allow continuation evidence, a new prescribed bond, or verification that the undertaking already on file remains effective for the requested registration period.

The current Department programme requires online registration and payment unless it grants a waiver for lack of reasonable internet/equipment access. It permits new and updated bonds to be emailed with identifying information and separately directs contracts and campaign reports to its submission system. The MAIL catalog qualifier itself grants no waiver or filing approval.

Supply the charity contracts, compensation terms and Alaska solicitation scripts through the Department's required route, then submit the campaign financial report after completion. Follow the current instructions for September 1 renewal and wait for completed Department registration before soliciting; a provider receipt is not the state's registration approval.

Have these ready

  1. Identify the compensated contractor and its legal/business names, rather than substituting the charity.
  2. Arrange the Department's prescribed $10,000 form, effective date and authorized signatures.
  3. For renewal, prepare the required evidence that security continues for the actual registration period.
  4. Confirm provider document delivery separately from the Department's online filing or expressly granted waiver.
  5. Prepare September 1 renewal, charity contracts/scripts and required campaign financial reporting.

Questions about this bond

Does MAIL mean I may skip online registration?

No. The Department currently requires paid solicitor registration online unless it grants a waiver for the specified access/equipment reasons. Confirm how the provider delivers the bond, then follow the Department's actual filing directions.

Must the continuing bond be replaced at every registration renewal?

The Department requires evidence of continued security. Its instructions permit a continuation notice, a new prescribed form, or verification that the bond on file remains effective for the registration period. The $10,000 aggregate does not multiply by the years it remains in force.
