Georgia — Registered Serviceman Or Service Agency Of Weighing And Measuring Devices Bond

Georgia requires $1,000 surety security for registered commercial weighing/measuring-device servicemen and service agencies. The Southern Agency’s listing concerns that servicing registration—not merely owning a scale or operating as a public weigher. The Department’s current packet contains the actual Commissioner bond form.

What this bond does

The instrument binds the principal and surety to Georgia’s Commissioner of Agriculture for the use and benefit of people owning weighing and measuring devices in the State. It addresses compliance with servicing regulations and injury/damage from the principal’s negligence, incompetence or misconduct in those duties.

Who needs it
An individual or agency paid to install, service, repair, recondition or test commercial weighing/measuring equipment within the registered classes. The rule permits one agency undertaking for employed repairmen operating from its headquarters, subject to the actual registration scope.
Who it protects
The published form secures the stated regulatory duties and device-owner protection through the Commissioner. It is not a commodity-dealer payment guarantee, automatic reimbursement for every shopper or permission to work on any device class regardless of training and equipment.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Check the agency base before assuming one document covers everyone

Rule 40-15-2-.05 allows employed repairmen operating from the agency headquarters to be covered by a single undertaking. It separately treats a person/agency based more than fifty miles from its parent agency and servicing that local area as independent for registration requirements. This concerns where the operation is based, not the distance driven to one repair job.

The agency application asks for business addresses, weight class, covered servicemen, and current surety/company number. The packet has a separate mechanic application and knowledge test. Use the actual agency/individual registration instead of assuming that a company name automatically qualifies every remote branch or worker.

Have the class and equipment evidence ready

GDA’s programme asks applicants to submit the registration packet with test answers and arrange calibration of weight sets. The current rule limits work to registered classes and requires appropriate tested standards/equipment; it also addresses current certification when an out-of-state laboratory is used.

Keep the registration and calibration evidence separate from the financial instrument. The rule ties renewal to the applicable standards inspection/recalibration process. A true/false test question in the packet is not itself a rule establishing an annual term.

Match the continuing form and existing purchase route

The form begins on the stated effective date and continues until cancelled. Surety cancellation takes effect ninety days after the Commissioner receives written notice, preserving rights for claims arising before effective cancellation whether presented or not. That is not a ninety-day purchase term or immediate release of earlier obligations.

Purchase Now opens Propeller in a new tab. Compare the actual individual/agency principal, Commissioner recipient, $1,000 sum, covered operation, and accepted form/dates before completing the application. The public option has no term label. Check the issued document, then follow GDA’s current registration-package instructions; purchase does not approve classes, test results or equipment.

Sources

Have these ready

  1. Actual individual/agency registration and headquarters versus separately based remote operation.
  2. Business addresses, covered servicemen and registered commercial-device classes.
  3. Current test/competence and appropriate weight-standard calibration evidence.
  4. Commissioner recipient, $1,000 sum, accepted effective date and continuing-form instructions.

Questions about this bond

Can one agency document cover all remote branches automatically?

No automatic blanket coverage is established. The rule allows a single undertaking for employed repairmen operating from headquarters and separately addresses locally servicing operations based more than fifty miles from their parent agency. Match the actual registration and locations.

Does this let me service every commercial device class?

No. The current rule limits work to the classes for which the individual/agency is registered and requires competence and appropriate tested equipment. The surety document does not replace those qualifications.

Does the ninety-day provision create a ninety-day purchase term?

No. The form continues until cancelled and measures surety cancellation from the Commissioner’s receipt of written notice. It preserves earlier-arising claim rights. Match the actual effective date and registration instructions rather than inventing a term label.
