Texas — Public Weigher Bond

A Texas public weigher certifies commodity weights for others; this is not a scale-repair license. TDA’s currently linked RWM-704 form is a $10,000 bond to the State for the benefit of people injured by the weigher. Prepare the exact public-weigher applicant and requested dates before applying through The Southern Agency.

What this bond does

The bond supports the public weigher’s qualification, true and accurate weight certificates, lawful duties and protection of commodities in the weigher’s possession from damage or destruction. TDA’s program requires approved state security alongside the public-weigher application and registered scales.

Who needs it
The public-weigher applicant/licensee performing independent third-party commodity weighing and issuing official weight certificates under TDA’s program. Device servicing alone is not this activity.
Who it protects
The instrument names the State of Texas for the benefit of all persons injured by the weigher and their legal representatives, attorneys or assigns. Its stated obligation concerns public-weigher duties and certificates—not a commodity-dealer payment guarantee or general equipment-repair coverage.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Keep the application and the customer certificate separate

TDA lists RWM-702 as the Public Weigher Certificate of Authority application and RWM-704 as the bond. Neither is the official commodity-weight certificate you issue in practice. TDA says the public-weigher license is needed before issuing that official certificate and that the weighing scales must be registered.

For issued weight certificates, TDA identifies the weighing date, public weigher’s signature/license number, and TDA seal, with copies retained for two years. These are operating duties—not extra documents to upload to The Southern Agency.

Use the form’s two-year dates

RWM-704 supplies an initiation date and an expiration date two years later. Separately, TDA says public-weigher licenses last two years, are nonrenewable and require a new application. Plan the next authorization rather than assuming a continuing bond or automatic license renewal.

Purchase Now opens Propeller in a new tab. Match the named public-weigher applicant, State of Texas wording, $10,000 sum, and accepted dates to TDA’s request. Review both issued pages, the principal’s notarized acknowledgment, surety power of attorney, and form execution before delivery to TDA. Purchase alone does not authorize official weighing.

Questions about this bond

Is this for repairing or calibrating scales?

No. This listing concerns independent third-party commodity weighing and official weight certification. TDA lists its service-company application separately from the public-weigher forms.

Does the instrument address commodities in my custody?

Yes. Its condition includes not permitting damage or destruction of a commodity while in the weigher’s possession, alongside accurate certificates and other lawful duties. It is not a general guarantee of a commodity purchase transaction.

Can I just renew the public-weigher license?

TDA’s posted program says the two-year license is nonrenewable and a new application is needed. Follow that process and the accepted bond dates instead of assuming renewal or an unlimited continuing instrument.
