What this bond does

The state-payable bond backs faithful performance of duties when installing, servicing, repairing or reconditioning commercial weighing and measuring devices. It accompanies full-service registration.

Who needs it
Full-service establishments working on commercial devices for direct or indirect benefit. The rule separately defines limited-service establishments working solely on their own devices and says no bond is required for that classification.
Who it protects
The establishment’s financial security must apply to each registered service technician it employs. It does not replace technician registration, competence or certified test standards.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Full-service and own-equipment work differ

A business servicing customers’ commercial devices should match the full-service classification. An establishment working solely on its own devices falls within the rule’s limited-service definition, with different bond treatment.

Registration remains important to legal-for-trade work: an unregistered person cannot remove official rejection tags or place a device into commercial service. Buying a bond does not grant that authority.

Prepare the registration and calibration documents

Purchase Now opens Propeller in a new tab. Have the establishment name, registration details, registered technician information, device classes, $1,000 request and required dates ready.

After issuance, check the state recipient and director-prescribed form. NMDA’s instructions call for the full-service bond with the registration application and a valid calibration certificate. The registration certificate lasts no more than a year; that does not supply a term for the unlabeled purchase option.

Questions about this bond

Does the same bond rule apply when we repair only our own devices?

The rule defines that as limited-service work and says no bond is required for that classification. Registration is still needed to remove official rejection tags or place devices into commercial service.

Must the establishment’s security include its technicians?

Yes. Rule 21.16.5.11 says the bond or other financial responsibility applies to each registered service technician employed by the establishment.

Does the bond replace calibration evidence?

No. NMDA calls for a valid calibration certificate with registration. The rule requires certified test standards and equipment for the registered device classes.
