What this bond does

Arrange the restoration security requested by the Geauga County Engineer for the identified highway-use work.

Who needs it
Utilities, contractors and other highway-use applicants whose excavation falls within the County Engineer's permitting jurisdiction.
Who it protects
The County's guidance describes security for restoring disturbed pavement, drainage, shoulders, structures, sod and other highway property. It is not a promise to complete an unrelated private construction contract.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Match the road and the excavation

The County Engineer handles highway-use excavation permits on all County and some township roads. Confirm the authority for your work location; the County also has separate driveway, ditch-enclosure and hauling processes.

The highway-use application calls for one application per project, the utility and applicant, any subcontractor, road and township, installation dimensions, pavement openings, bore pits and planned dates. Its permit is valid for six months from issue, with a new application needed if work is not completed in that period.

Have the Engineer settle the bond amount and duration

The permit webpage requires a bond or certified check before permit issuance, in an amount established by the Engineer to secure restoration. Obtain the required recipient wording and accepted bond form; the RLI option supplies no fixed sum.

The webpage says security remains in force for 90 days after restoration. The linked 2025 application instead says the bond remains active for one year, without stating the starting point in that note. Ask the Engineer to confirm the applicable period in writing rather than treating either statement as an automatic release date.

Keep issuance, permit approval and closure separate

Use Purchase Now to continue to RLI after confirming the instrument. Review and submit the issued bond with the required highway-use documents through the Engineer's process; issuance alone does not authorize excavation.

The application directs applicants to notify the Engineer when the job is complete for final inspection and permit closure. Retain the inspection and bond-release records rather than assuming the six-month permit window determines the security period.
