Georgia — Process Server Public Official Bond
Georgia’s certified process-server program uses a $25,000 bond naming the Governor and successors in office. The application goes to a certifying sheriff. Apply through The Southern Agency after matching the individual server, county application and accepted form—not a generic request for another public office.

What this bond does
For the GCPS route under O.C.G.A. 9-11-4.1, security addresses actionable misconduct, error or omission while acting as a certified process server. The current rules also allow an accepted commercial liability-insurance binder of at least $25,000 instead of the bond.
- Who needs it
- Individuals applying or renewing through Georgia’s certified process-server program. These rules apply to that certification route, not every person authorized to serve papers under other law or every Georgia official.
- Who it protects
- The rules describe protection for members of the public and people employing the server. Appendix A names the Governor, requires compliance with applicable laws/rules, and allows aggrieved persons to sue for acts that are grounds for denial, suspension or revocation. Total damages paid cannot exceed the bond sum.
Choose from 2 options
Each option is a separate record. Where a term, bond amount, premium, or E&O limit is known, it is listed; match it to what your requirement asks for.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Questions about this bond
Must I provide both a bond and the insurance alternative?
Article 3.B of the current rules offers the Appendix A bond or an accepted commercial liability-insurance binder of at least $25,000. Confirm the program’s accepted evidence rather than assuming any insurance policy qualifies.
Is the county sheriff the named recipient?
The application and county details identify the certifying sheriff, but Appendix A names the Governor of Georgia and successors as the party to whom the bond is bound. Keep both roles correct.
Does buying this grant authority throughout Georgia?
No. The rules explicitly say acceptance of a certification packet does not grant authority to operate in a county. Certification review, credentials, oath and applicable county authorization remain separate from purchase.
