Wisconsin — Professional Fund-Raiser (Custodial) Bond

A Wisconsin professional fundraiser that will hold or control contributions uses the $20,000 custodial undertaking, CRED201. A check payable to the charity can still be in the fundraiser's custody. Establish the handling arrangement before choosing this listing instead of the separate non-custodial or fundraising-counsel forms.

What this bond does

File Wisconsin DFI's professional fundraiser custodial security for the registered applicant and its contribution-handling activity.

Who needs it
The compensated professional fundraiser that will at any time have custody of contributions. This is not the $5,000 never-custodial fundraiser form or the separately identified fundraising-counsel undertaking.
Who it protects
CRED201 requires the principal and its representatives to comply with Chapter 202, subchapter II, and applicable orders and rules. It covers amounts owed to DFI or persons with causes of action for covered professional fundraising liabilities or violations. All claims share the $20,000 aggregate; the security is not an assurance that every campaign meets its goal.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Details for custody and the original CRED201 filing

DFI's application defines custody as possession or control of cash, checks or donated merchandise, even when a check names the charity as payee. If the professional fundraiser will have custody at any time, the application calls for the $20,000 CRED201 rather than the never-custodial $5,000 CRED203.

Match the exact applicant and all solicitation trade or DBA names. CRED294 requires the original prescribed undertaking and original Power of Attorney; it states that other forms will be rejected. CRED201 includes principal execution by an owner, partner or officer with a witness, surety attorney-in-fact execution and the claims agent's name and address.

The obligation continues from its actual effective date until cancellation under its terms. The surety may end future liability no sooner than 60 days after DFI receives written certified-mail notice. The form retains liability for covered acts through cancellation for two years, and claimants must give written notice to the surety within two years of the cancellation's effective date.

Do not treat that continuing condition as a substitute for keeping registration current. Complete the CRED294 applicant information and attachments, including other state authorizations and any required conviction/charge disclosures.

A professional fundraiser also files the solicitation notice and charity contract before performing covered services. DFI identifies CRED1941 for each charity, with the charity's confirmation of the notice and contract. Keep the registration, original security and campaign documents together for filing; checkout alone completes none of them.

Questions about this bond

Can a check payable to the charity still make the fundraiser custodial?

Yes. DFI's application says custody includes possession or control of checks even when made payable to the charity. Describe the actual handling before choosing the custodial or never-custodial form.

Can I submit a generic $20,000 bond?

DFI's current application requires CRED201 for custodial professional fundraising, the exact applicant and trade names, and original security with the original Power of Attorney. The same sum on another form does not establish an acceptable condition.

What follows Purchase Now?

Propeller's Wisconsin custodial fundraiser application opens in a new tab. Match the applicant's actual custody role, CRED201 condition, $20,000 sum, effective date and original execution, then file the registration and campaign documents with DFI. Payment does not create the credential or file a solicitation notice.
