Pressure-boundary and rotating-equipment failure
A defective seal, casing, or impeller can rupture or fail in critical service, causing downstream property damage and large product liability claims.

Your customer's lost throughput can be far greater than the price of a pump or compressor. Product and contract terms need to distinguish resulting damage from process losses, your own repair bill and any capacity guarantee.
The Southern Agency can help you protect your plant's high-value machinery while addressing the high-consequence risks inherent in critical industrial equipment.

You machine, assemble and test pumps or compressors for the service your customers specify. A failed seal, impeller or housing can damage connected equipment or stop a customer's process. The liquid or gas handled and your design responsibilities shape the potential loss.
The Southern Agency can review your precision testing and high-value equipment assembly to help you select appropriate insurance. We can help you distinguish between third-party damage claims and your own costs for reworking a unit or addressing throughput guarantees.

Pressure and spin testing stores significant energy; a containment failure can injure workers and damage the test area.
CNC centers, balancing rigs, and overhead cranes handling heavy castings expose employees to crush, struck-by, and amputation hazards.
Failure of machine tools, metrology systems, or test rigs can stall production of made-to-order rotating equipment.
When a unit fails in a refinery or pipeline, customers may seek damages for lost throughput well beyond the equipment's price.
Large skid-mounted pumps and compressors can be damaged when shipped or rigged at customer sites.
Policies to ask about. Which ones fit depends on your operations, your contracts, and the carrier’s forms.

A customer alleges a compressor failed in service and shut its process line. Product liability may help with defense and covered damages if the claim falls within the policy. Identify what property, if any, was damaged: own compressor, other equipment, or an impaired process. Review loss-of-use, pollution and contract terms separately from lost-throughput demands and any actual release; a shutdown alone does not prove an insured claim.
A pressure test fails and injures an operator in the test bay. Workers' compensation may help with medical care and lost wages, subject to the policy and jurisdiction. Identify test energy, employer and benefit eligibility separately from third-party injury or equipment interests.
A critical machining center suffers an electrical failure, stopping impeller production. Equipment breakdown may help repair covered internal damage, and purchased business income may address resulting lost output, subject to policy terms. Check repair and recalibration time; missed-order penalties and every lost sale are not assured.

Actual service matters: water, wastewater, chemical, power, and refinery applications have different media and consequences. Review injury or other-property damage separately from replacing the unit, impaired processes, pollution, throughput guarantees, and recalls. Not every pump operates in a refinery or pipeline.
Identify what was physically damaged, whose property it was and why production stopped. Compare injury, property-damage, and loss-of-use definitions, own-product, impaired-property, pollution, and contract terms. Pure throughput, efficiency or delay demands are not automatically insured product claims.
Compare covered internal failure of CNC, metrology and test equipment, recalibration and restart time and purchased stock or income extensions. An off-spec workpiece, failed performance test or worn tooling alone does not promise breakdown repair or all lost output.
Describe test media, pressure and spin energy, containment and worker or visitor roles with qualified safety advisers. Compare test operations included, employee benefits, and covered property or liability causes. Procedures or safeguards alone do not establish availability or payment.
Identify unit owner, carrier, lifting contractor, and responsibilities through temporary staging, rigging, and commissioning. Compare transit and installation stages expressly insured, causes, values, and exclusions. Premises property and a shipping certificate do not establish every stage.
Review the covered property cause, bottleneck repair, replacement and recalibration time, and purchased income and extra-expense scope, waiting periods and limits. A buyer's throughput demand or missed order is not the same as the manufacturer's insured income loss.
Bring your questions, current policies, and relevant contracts. An agent can review coverage terms, exclusions, and the information carriers ask for, then explain the options available to you.
